On November 8th, we hosted our friends at Dell at Frederick’s iconic restaurant, Dutch's Daughter! It was a lunch full of food, education and networking starting at noon with a Dell presentation on their latest storage technology, PowerStore. We gave away a Dell Latitude 9330 2-In-1 valued at over $4,000!
Michael Burke, a Principal Systems Engineer with Dell Technologies, gave the presentation. Mike originally joined EMC Corporation in January 2000 as an Account Systems Engineer, supporting a variety of Enterprise customers in the Mid-Atlantic area, including T. Rowe Price, Stanley Black & Decker, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and McCormick. He was promoted to EMC Principal Systems Engineer in 2012, and has subsequently focused on Dell Technologies’ primary storage portfolio as a Storage Platform & Solutions Specialist.

PowerStore is a storage array from Dell that combines automation and next-generation technology with novel software architecture. The latest version of the PowerStore's operating system is 10.0, and it includes a number of new features. According to Travis Vigil, SVP of product management at Dell, more than 1,000 engineers worked on the project. Separate teams were also created to develop migration facilities from existing Dell EMC midrange systems.
PowerStore also features a native version of VMware Virtualization, improving flexibility and enabling application mobility between PowerStore and other VMware targets. It is one of Dell's last midrange platforms, which is phasing out its SC and XtremIO platforms. The new system replaces these systems and enables organizations to access storage capabilities right away.
The PowerStore platform also offers flexible capacity scaling and a 4:1 data reduction guarantee. It also uses clustering technology for maximum efficiency, and supports VMware's vSphere management environment. PowerStore devices can scale to four storage clusters, making them ideal for large-scale data storage. Dell also offers a lower-cost version of the PowerStore 500, which will begin shipping next month.
Dell's PowerStore storage system is designed to compete with third-party solutions. Dell provides migration solutions for customers from other storage platforms. It also offers a Pay-as-you-grow program and flexible on-demand financing.
