In the mid-nineties, when authorities banned lead from use in hunting migratory birds, a group of sportsmen joined together to form Kent Cartridge. They believed they could develop a new line of high-quality, non-toxic hunting loads. Purchasing a small factory that was going out of business in Kearneysville, WV, they acted upon their vision and became one of the biggest names in the shotgun hunting market.
Today, Kent Cartridge manufactures a wide range of shotgun shells at their factory with an additional sales and distribution office in Ontario, Canada. They also have a sister company in the U.K., the Gamebore Cartridge Company.
Unfortunately, when the coronavirus pandemic hit, they quickly realized that their IT systems were not properly setup for remote work and sharing data. To make matters worse, they had two separate IT companies managing different areas and neither was not up to the task of modernizing their infrastructure. After a thorough search process, Kent Cartridge turned to Advantage Technology to modernize their infrastructure and make their IT work for them.
Kent Cartridge’s office, located in a Civil War era mansion, posed some unique challenges to Advantage Technology. The walls are thick and structural changes are not permitted, meaning cables must be ran along the grounds and space is limited, leaving the kitchen as the only location for a server cabinet.
In addition to the remote work, storage and networking needs, Kent Cartridge also needed extensive knowledge of Microsoft Access. Though considered to be legacy reporting software, Microsoft Access cannot be replaced overnight. So instead, Advantage Technology’s software development team has worked with Kent Cartridge to improve performance, understand the business processes and begin the transition to a modern system.
