On July 29th, we held our July Advantage Lunch at Edgewood Country Club. (If you’re not familiar with the Advantage Lunch, learn about it at advantagelunch.com) The topic this month was Windows 10, and we had an incredible turnout! Over 40 IT and business professionals came to spend an hour with us demoing Windows 10 and explaining the new features. We were so excited and grateful to see so many faces there to spend time with and learn from us. We hope to see you again next time, the topic will be Network Security, more details to come next month.
So, in case you couldn’t make it or want a recap of the presentation, here’s what we discussed with Windows 10.
Windows 10 is the latest version of Windows developed by Microsoft after the ill-received Windows 8. (There is no Windows 9) With a lot of users and businesses feeling that Windows 8 was very poorly suited for desktop productivity, Microsoft has redesigned it to make it more familiar and useful.
It’s important to learn Windows 10 because many Windows products are at their End Of Life, like Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. This means that Microsoft will no longer support them with security updates or support.
Here’s a video of the first 5 minutes of Zack Turley and me demoing the new interface and talking about the current state of Windows.
Windows 10 offers a new, more familiar Start Menu, the personal digital assistant Cortana and a seamless transition from a desktop interface to a tablet interface called Continuum. This along with great new security features makes Windows 10 worth the upgrade as long as you understand the process and have a company like Advantage Technology who can help you through the transition and with any further challenges.
The release of Windows 10 offers a great opportunity to refresh your organization’s hardware with some of the new, modern solutions like the Dell Venue 11 Pro, which we demoed in the video. With a docking station, it is an ideal desktop and laptop replacement for most users. As you’re looking for new hardware solutions keep in mind that we are a Dell Partner and are able to get really great deals if you purchase through us. So before you buy anything, call us at 304-973-9537 and see if we can save you some money.
The upgrade to Windows 10 is free to Windows 7 and 8 owners for one year.
So, should you upgrade? Check with your software and hardware vendors first, to verify everything is compatible, and if it is then I would recommend that you upgrade. This is especially true if you don’t like the radical design change of Windows 8. If you need help with the transition, be sure to give us a call 304-973-9537 or email us your questions.
