In 1920, a group of pioneering educators came together to establish a credit union. They wanted all educators in Kanawha County schools to have an alternative to traditional banks. From this humble start, Pioneer WV Federal Credit Union has grown to over 17,000 members with branches all over West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.
Unlike banks, credit union are nonprofits owned by their members. They put their member’s needs first rather than stockholders. Because of this, credit unions have a smaller clientele with more specialized services, but the need for security is just as paramount as the big banks. And in the digital age, cybersecurity is top priority.
Building for the Future
In 2016, Pioneer WV Federal Credit Union began construction on a new, ultra-modern facility at 1316 Kanawha Blvd E. The new building included IoT technologies and state-of-the-art IT infrastructure. Since the IT team at Pioneer has relied on Advantage Technology in the past, they looked to us to help design and implement their new network, including routers, switches, servers and telecommunications.
The new building is both aesthetically stunning and functional with a beautiful water feature, lighted monolith, spacious lobby and energy saving automation. Most important of all, the design considers cybersecurity and separates corporate data from IoT and guest data.
Arctic Wolf
As part of our regular community outreach, Advantage Technology organized an event to showcase one of the newest cybersecurity technologies, Arctic Wolf, and we invited Pioneer WV Federal Credit Union.
The technology turned out to be a perfect for their needs.
Arctic Wolf is a Security Operation Center (SOC)-as-a-service that supplies concierge and team that’s dedicated to your organization. The Arctic Wolf team provides 24/7, eyes-on-glass monitoring of all your network data that detects threats and responds quickly to prevent or mitigate damage. Included with the service is a monthly meeting with a dedicated team to discusses the latest cybersecurity trends, make plans for the future, and assess progress on current plans.
