Some of the sayings we used when we were younger are a little outdated, but not “Sharing is Caring.” Sharing is more important than ever, but did you know that attaching a file to an email isn’t really sharing? You’re actually making a copy. But if you share files with Office 365’s OneDrive, then you can take advantage of all the incredible collaboration tools like simultaneous editing and version control.
If you’re sharing an Office document, then by default, anyone with the link can edit the file, but you can easily customize that. You can set it so that anyone can access the file, only people in your organization can access the file, or only certain people can access the file. You can also change the ability to edit, set an expiration date, set a password or block the ability to download.
Once you have it set just the way you like it, you can enter a list of names – if you’re sharing with people in your organization – or a list of email addresses for external users. OneDrive will automatically draft an email with the link and send it to everyone in your list.
In this Quick Bytes video, I walk you through how to share a file using OneDrive. And if you have questions or feedback, ask in the Comment section of the video on our Facebook page!
