FCC/USAC Cybersecurity Pilot Program
The FCC has released a report & order establishing the Schools and Libraries Cybersecurity Pilot Program (Pilot Program) to gather the data needed to better understand whether and how universal service funds could be used to support the cybersecurity needs of schools and libraries.
The Pilot Program aims to address cybersecurity threats facing schools and libraries, including being targeted by malicious actors who seek to steal personal information, compromise online accounts, cause online harm or embarrassment, or otherwise disable/disrupt critical networks that provide broadband connectivity.
Overview
The three-year Pilot Program, administered by USAC, provides up to $200 million in Universal Service Fund support to eligible schools and libraries to defray the cost of eligible cybersecurity services and equipment. It will follow many of the same E-Rate processes.
Apply for the Program
This fall, the FCC will open an application filing window for entities that are interested in participating in the Pilot Program. Eligible schools, libraries, and consortia of schools and libraries will be able to apply to participate in the Pilot Program through a two-part process, using a newly created FCC Form 484.
Part One
- Eligible applicants to submit request with high level overview of their needs
Part Two
- If selected, participants will be required to submit more detailed information about their Cybersecurity experiences.
