Richard S. Wilbur III is the Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Advantage Technology, a leading Mid-Atlantic technology services company headquartered in Charleston, West Virginia.

Richard founded Advantage Technology in 2002 with a simple belief: organizations deserve an IT partner that combines deep technical expertise, personal accountability and exceptional service. What began as a one-person startup has grown into a regional technology organization with more than 100 professionals serving commercial, healthcare, nonprofit, education and government clients throughout West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia and the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region.

A Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) since 2000, Richard built Advantage from the ground up as a hands-on technologist. Before becoming a CEO, he spent years designing, implementing and supporting mission-critical technology solutions for customers. That practical experience continues to shape the company’s culture today, ensuring Advantage remains focused on engineering excellence, accountability, innovation and measurable business outcomes.

Under Richard’s leadership, Advantage has evolved into a full-service technology partner delivering managed IT services, cybersecurity and compliance, cloud and Microsoft solutions, advanced networking, voice communications, structured cabling, physical security, and AI-powered business solutions. Advantage maintains strategic partnerships with leading technology providers including Microsoft, Arctic Wolf, Verkada, Extreme Networks and Dell Technologies.

A strong advocate for innovation and responsible growth, Richard has remained committed to building a privately owned, customer-focused organization where technical excellence, accountability and long-term relationships take precedence over short-term financial objectives. His leadership has helped position Advantage as a trusted advisor and technology partner throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

In 2022, Richard relocated to Downtown Frederick, Maryland, to personally lead the company’s expansion into the Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland markets. The Frederick office has since become a strategic hub supporting Advantage’s continued growth throughout the region.
